Rampart is an arcade game developed by Atari Games and released for the Sega Mega Drive and Master System in 1991. It is a strategy game for one or two players, where the goal is to build and maintain walls around castles while attempting to destroy enemy forces. Gameplay alternates between building and battle phases. During the building phase, players secure territory and repair damage. In the battle phase, cannons are used to attack enemies. A player loses if a castle cannot be fully enclosed by walls.
The game features three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, Hard) affecting enemy strength and phase time. In two-player mode, players compete against each other as blue and red. Building uses Tetris-like pieces for walls, and cannons are placed within the enclosed areas. The battle phase requires precision, firing cannonballs individually. Single-player battles against computer-controlled ships and troops include Gunships, Troop Carriers, and Flagships, each with unique traits. The winner is determined by completed rounds or eliminating the opponent.
