In 1987, Sega released a new version of Heavyweight Champ for arcades, changing the perspective from side view to a third-person view behind the boxer. The game introduced a unique control system with two punch controllers – one for each hand – that simulated real punches.

Unlike the original, only single-player mode is available, where the player must face a series of opponents in one-round, three-minute matches. The remake was a success, becoming Japan’s fifth highest-grossing arcade game of 1988.
