The adventure begins when Kane is summoned by Daikak, the great leader of the Summit Temple, to put an end to a violent conflict among warring lords. The player explores temples, villages, and mysterious locations, facing enemies such as ghosts, ninjas, and feral beasts, while gathering clues about who desecrated his hometown’s temple and murdered its guardians.

The journey spans across medieval Japan and even into the Underworld. Outdoors, button 1 makes Kane jump, while button 2 fires magic projectiles – holding it unleashes stronger attacks. The pause menu allows spell selection, and along the way, numerous weapons, armor, and items can be found to aid Kane on his dangerous quest.
